How To Book In

For Your Brain tPBM Therapy Sessions

Brain tPBM Therapy Appointments (NovoTHOR + LX2)

Firstly – Does This Apply To You?

We recommend that each treatment session consists of one NovoTHOR Light bed treatment and a LX2 transcranial treatment.  So before you book your first  tPBM Therapy session please read these statements:

  • CANCER – the evidence so far shows:
      • There is NO EVIDENCE of harm for cancer patients being treated with PBM Therapy.
      • However, if you have cancer or are having ACTIVE cancer treatment (Chemotherapy or Radiotherapy) we would advise/urge you getting your oncologists permission as your treatment will include the NovoTHOR Whole Body Light Bed Pod.  As part of our consultation paperwork we will ask you to sign a disclaimer that you have done so before starting treatment.
      • If you need tPBM Therapy in the same area as known previous cancer (brain) then we will need to get the oncologist’s permission that they are happy for you to have tPBM.

    INFORMATION FOR YOUR ONCOLOGIST

      • The 5 pdf’s below contain all the information your consultant should need to give you the ‘go ahead’.  You can print them off to mail/ hand them to him/her in person or download them to your computer and email them to your consultant, so they have this evidence on PBM Therapy and cancer safety.  Once the consultant gives you the ‘go ahead’ to have PBM Therapy just book in

EVIDENCE OF SAFETY OF PBM THERAPY AND CANCER

      • PBM therapy is an increasingly accepted treatment for the side effects of chemo and Radiotherapy – Oral Mucositis which is a severe ulcerating inflammation of the mucous membranes of mouth (but can also effect the intestines, bowels and vagina) which occurs as a direct consequence of having Chemotherapy/Radiotherapy treatment for active cancer. PBM Therapy (note: in the pdf below LLLT or low level laser therapy was the old redundant name for PBM Therapy by its old name) has NHS approval for oral mucositis.  Click/tap the PDF Icon below where you can download the  PDF article (NHS web page copy with the web URL) to print or save it and email it to your consultant

    PBM Therapy Research And Cancer

      •  Click/tap the PDF Icon below where you can download the PDF article to print or save it and email it to your consultant, it contains many published research articles demonstrating the routine use of PBM Therapy whilst patients are under the care of a specialist oncologists/nurses for Oral Mucositis

    PBM Therapy Research And cancer

      • Random Trial Evidence (RCT) of safety of PBM Therapy in cancer.  We are aware of one Level III Random Controlled Trial (RCT) showing that PBM Therapy may well improve the survival rate from cancer in the long term.  The trial does not prove that PBM Therapy ‘treated the cancer’ and so was the reason for the extra life span.  A simple explanation could be having the PBM Therapy led to improved patient ability to eat and drink.  Thereby, improving their nutritional status and health allowing them to survive longer.  Further RCT’s are needed to investigate this more.   Click/tap the PDF Icon below where you can download the PDF article to print or save it and email it to your consultant

    PBM Therapy Research And cancer

      • A review of the all the literature relating to the safety/efficacy of PBM Therapy and cancer was carried out by Professor Michael Hamblin et al.  The conclusions was “PBM therapy may have benefits in cancer patients and should be further investigated”.  Click/tap the PDF Icon below where you can download the PDF article to print or save it and email it to your consultant

    PBM Therapy Research And cancer

      • PBM Therapy for Lymphodema after breast surgery is routinely performed by oncology nurses at and around the site of cancer surgery.  Click/tap the PDF Icon below where you can download the PDF article to print or save it and email it to your consultant, it contains many published research articles demonstrating the routine use of PBM Therapy whilst patients are under the care of a specialist oncologists/nurses.

    ORGAN TRANSPLANT

      • If you are on immune suppressant medications after having organ transplant the risks have not been established so we would advise against having NovoTHOR Whole Body PBM Therapy unless agreed by your consultant.

    PREGNANCY

      • The risks have not been established so we would advise you against Whole Body PBM therapy whilst you are pregnant.  Once you have given birth then it is safe for you to have Whole Body PBM Therapy.  If you have a local problem that is not in your lumbar spine or pelvis whilst you are pregnant then you can have specific body part PBM Therapy safely with our hand held desk top THOR LX2 PBM Therapy machines

How Long Does A Normal tPBM Therapy Session Take? (NovoTHOR + LX2)

Normal tPBM sessions will take about 45 minutes to 1 hour including changing times, moving around the clinic etc.

  1. As you are totally enclosed by the NovoTHOR light bed pod and so close to the source of powerful red and near infrared light, treatment times are probably not as long as you would think.  Consensus in the research field is that 15 minutes is the ideal time to achieve the maximum physiological benefit.  Research has shown that this is the optimum treatment time.  This means that less time means you do not get the full benefit.  Equally, perhaps contrary to what you would expect, a longer treatment time isn’t actually better as it causes the benefit to reverse.  The easiest way to think of PBM Therapy dose/irradiance is either:-
    • Getting a health benefit from being in the sun’s UV light and making vitamin D.  Too little sun and you do not make any Vitamin D, too much sun is harmful and you burn with negative health effects.  There is a ‘Goldilocks point’ of being just right which for NovoTHOR® PBM Therapy is 15 minutes
    • Alternatively think of any medication either from a doctor or pharmacist there is always a recommendation of dose based on science e.g. a tablet twice in 24 hrs or 2 lots of 5 ml of cough syrup per 24 hrs.  This is optimal, less does not help but more is not better either and can actually be bad for you
  2. LX2 tPBM Therapy takes about 15-20 minutes

tPBM Therapy Fees For Dual NovoTHOR and LX2 Treatments

  • Pay as you go for each combined session (PAYG)
  • The most popular option is to book a block of sessions (three discount offers) which can save you up to 30% on each combined treatment session.  At your initial consultation your clinician will be able to advise what the scientific evidence suggests in terms of how long it is likely to take for you to see an improvement.  This will help you decide which package could be most appropriate for you
